Usha Narayanan has done it again. She has presented to the world a masterpiece of a book in ‘Awaken the Durga Within’.

Disclaimer: This is not a book on mythology as are most others by the author. This is not a self-help book either. It is rather a beautiful, impressive, effective, and a brilliant mix of the two.

Who would have thought of taking little stories from Indian mythology, and using them to offer practical solutions and suggestions to invoke the eternal ‘Shakti’ present inside every woman? Only an author of a caliber of Ms. Narayanan could think of doing something like this and end up doing it with élan.

This book is a must-read by every woman, not only those living in a patriarchal society like India, but the entire world. I am of the strong belief that a book like ‘Awaken the Durga Within’ was the need of the hour, given the growing gender imbalance. It sensitizes us on the rough hand that women are often dealt with in not only the professional world but also personal life, besides giving easy-to-follow suggestions to fight the divide.

Usha Narayanan had a successful career in advertising and media before becoming a full-time writer. She was creative director in advertising agencies like RK Swamy/BBDO, one of India’s top ten, and in Radio City 91.1 FM. She managed corporate communications and CSR activities in Scope International, Standard Chartered Bank. Usha loves to travel and reads everything from thrillers to romances to the puranas.
